The client experience

Cashmere Garden

I employed Dan and his team to conceptualise and build an outdoor space on my difficult, sloping property. From our initial meeting, Dan was thoughtful and listened to my requirements. I was inspired with the concepts that Dan proposed and we worked through this collaboratively to achieve what I was hoping for when I contacted him. The quality of his teams’ work is exceptional and I recommend them for their professionalism and attention to detail. His team were friendly, honest and knowledgeable. My outdoor space is perfect for my requirements and I love it.

Port Hills Garden

Dan and his team have done an amazing job landscaping my place. I have a steep section on the Port Hills and it was a very challenging project to landscape. Dan has built a combination of terracing and a rock embankment with native plants that look amazing and blend in with the alpine look and feel of the Port Hills. Great job! thanks Dan and the team.

Robert Barrack

Thanks for your fantastic review, Robert. The team and I are thrilled you love the landscaping on your Port Hills section. It was exciting to work on such a technically challenging site, and fun to work with you to achieve such an awesome result!”

Merivale Garden

In June 2021 my wife Jan and I asked Dan Rutherford to revamp our North West Facing courtyard. His plan was to build a deck with composite timber, suitable plantings, a shelter with a roof that opens and shuts and to be outfitted with nice outdoor furniture. Also he organized and helped with the planning and designing and fitting Double Glazed Aluminum sliding doors and windows, replacing the originals. The whole job was done by Dan and his delightful staff and helpers. The Courtyard is a huge success, much admired and enjoyed by friends and family. It has made a previously seldom used area into a wonderful place to be and relax in Summer and Winter.

Michael Gould

Thank you Michael for the opportunity to work with you and Jan. It was really rewarding to work with you to maximise the indoor-outdoor flow in your courtyard and create a really good entertaining space for you to enjoy with your friends and family.

Fendalton Garden

I am delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience with Rutherford Landscapes. From the first discussion Dan gave you great confidence with his knowledge and experience of the task in hand. He was respectful of my requests and gave good honest suggestions and guidance of alternative ideas that would work. Plans were set in place. Dan arrived with his team and they worked diligently, totally committed and dedicated to completing the garden quickly and efficiently. Dan’s team were at all times friendly and respectful of working at our property.

Definately the “A” team. Our Zen garden was completed and the end result is even better than expected. We love it as it enhances our front entrance with a welcoming feeling of positivity and calmness. I would not hesitate to give Dan the opportunity to discuss and plan your landscape, no matter how small or big the work may be. Thanks Dan and team our front garden is fantastic and we have received so many positive comments. Love it !!!!!!

Fendalton Garden

I asked Dan Rutherford to design the garden for my new house because I had seen his creativity at a garden show. When we met and I showed him a folio of ideas I liked I knew immediately we could work together. He was enthusiastic and delighted to transform the lovely riverside section into my dream garden. In consultation with my architect Dan and his helpers built decking down to the river and a boardwalk to the front door. The planting was trees for structure and privacy and largely low growing perennials so as not to obscure the view of the river from the house. I was thrilled with final result and have been receiving compliments ever since. My garden has even appeared in House and Garden magazine.

Colleen Foley-Smith

It’s been amazing working with you Colleen. The team and I are so thrilled that you’re enjoying the garden. It was very satisfying to achieve such a successful land stabilisation solution with the integration of plant systems and rock embankments. Your colour vision has worked so well, and we’ve loved seeing it come to life as the plants have become established!

Sumner garden

We have been clients of Mr Dan Rutherford for 25 years. Dan is a very pleasant man who listens to and respects his clients and gives them what they want. For our garden we worked out together what we were going to do. The end result was excellent and my family were very happy. Dan has an excellent team working for him. We would highly recommend him.

Nerita Coulter

Strowan Garden

Such a pleasure to have Dan back again working his miracles in my garden! Having landscaped the garden six years earlier, this time his attention turned to the trees. Dan did a masterly job on some favourite trees, raising canopies, layering and thinning to transform them into shapely trees with character. Dan and his assistant Will left the grounds in perfect order, I had no raking or gathering-up to do later. Dan’s “can do attitude” and ability to involve and educate the client as he works, is also second to none! Positive Quality, Professionalism.

Pegasus Garden

We were delighted with the work completed by Dan and his team on our landscaping design and construction, and have received many compliments from neighbours. The thoughtful design meant the cold easterly winds were redirected away from the main outdoor living areas, and the batten fencing and glass screening provide shelter while preserving our views of the golf course. They created a beautiful space for us to live in!

Michelle Burman

Thank you so much for the lovely review and the amazing photos — wow! That was incredibly kind of you and such a huge help.

We were both so sorry to hear about what’s happening at Pegasus and the uncertainty surrounding the proposed development. It must be incredibly upsetting, especially given the beautiful home and environment you and Duncan have created there.

We’ll be keeping our fingers and toes crossed that it doesn’t go ahead. Thank you again for your support, Michelle. It means a great deal to us.

Warm regards,
Dan
